Trader Joe Picks Queens

Much to the chagrin, amazement and befuddlement of Manhattanites, the second NY Trader Joes is scheduled to open in Forest Hills, a leafy, upscale enclave in Queens. But for Manhattan snobs, who think the borough is still the bastion of Archie Bunker types, Queens today is totally cool and Forest Hills is no longer the place where you just go to visit Grandma. Yes, there are still old Jewish ladies strolling down Continental Ave., but Forest Hills, where the U.S. Open used to be played before it moved to Flushing, is home to lots of upscale restaurants, bars, and shops.

What’s more, savvy 20-something are discovering this comparative housing bargain, a 40 minute express-subway ride from the City or 15 minutes on the Long Island Railroad.
