Brooklyn: Long Island Wines at BAMCafe May 16

Here’s your chance to sample the full range of offerings from this maturing wine region without schlepping out to the North Fork –though I do recommend a trip to this fabulous area brimming with farm markets and vineyards. The event is sponsored by Edible East End, Edible Brooklyn, the Long Island Wine Council and the New York Wine and Grape Foundation (Disclaimer: I have a forthcoming article that will appear in the Spring issue of Edible Brooklyn and Edible East End)
Here are the details:
On Wednesday, May 16th at the BAMcafé of Brooklyn’s Academy of Music in Fort Greene, New Yorkers will have a chance to see and taste the wines of Long Island. The first annual Brooklyn Uncorked event offers curious wine lovers a rare chance to sample multiple vintages, dozens of varietals, and an array of winemaking techniques that have been dazzling wine aficionados for over a decade.
Nearly 40 wineries lie just 70 miles east of New York City in the ocean-tempered climate and rich soils of Long Island’s Hamptons and North Fork. Most of the wineries participating in this event, including Bedell Cellars, Bridge Vineyards, Castello di Borghese, Channing Daughters, Clovis Point Wines, Corey Creek Vineyards, Duckwalk Vineyards,Jamesport Vineyards, Jason’s Vineyard, Lieb Family Cellars, Lenz Winery, Long Island Meadery, Macari Vineyards, Martha Clara Winery, Old Field Vineyards, Osprey’s Dominion, Palmer Vineyards, Paumanok Vineyards, Peconic Bay Winery, Pelligrini,Pindar, Raphael, Roanoke Vineyards, Shinn Estate Vineyards, Vineyard 48, Waters Crest Winery, and Wölffer Estate Vineyards, are members of the Long Island Wine Council, an industry association dedicated to achieving recognition for Long Island as a premium wine producing region. Its role is to provide a coordinated effort for the promotion and development of the region’s wine industry.
Edible Brooklyn and Edible East End magazines are partnering with the Long Island Wine Council and the New York Wine and Grape Foundation to launch this unique annual tasting event in Brooklyn.
While tasting wines, attendees will also get a chance to sample oysters from Long Island baymen, artisanal bread and cheese from Whole Foods Market, music by WLIU radio, and a chance to win a weekend getaway to Long Island provided by the Ellis House and Harvest Inn Bed and Breakfasts.
