My New Book—Ice Cream: A Global History

Casseroles: send me your recipes

At Camaje a restaurant on MacDougal St. yesterday, Campbell’s did an event for members of the New York Women’s Culinary Alliance. Lots of interesting stuff about the history of tuna casserole. (Did you know that 10 percent of Americans households eat the stuff at least once a month and that 30 million households serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving!)

I’m no big fan of condensed soups. Too much salt for one, but I have to say this was an interesting hour. Also, the Veracruz Shrimp Casserole and Provencal Veggie Casserole that the chef at Camaje whipped up was really tasty, everyone seemed to agree. I don’t know if either of these items are regulars on Camaje’s menu but the preparation was first rate, indicating to me that this may be a place worth trying.

I’m a casserole fan. If anyone has a good recipe out there, please send it along and I’ll post it.
