Upper West Side Restaurant: GennaroSorry, I don’t know what the fuss is about. Gennaro on Amsterdam Ave. on the Upper West Side is just not very good, but it’s hugely popular. The place is crowded and noisy and people were waiting for a table. Maybe that’s because the place is in the 90s and there isn’t exactly a surfeit of good Italian eateries in the area. I started with fresh shelled peas tossed with pancetta and Parmesan. Very unremarkable: lumps of Parmesan and shredded pancetta mixed with mealy peas. Next came the pasta special: more pancetta (OK, I shouldn’t have ordered it twice in a dish), bucattini, and some other ingredients I can’t for the life of me remember. What’s worse was that when I was eating the dish, I couldn’t figure out what was in it. The Hubby liked his veal chop. Maybe I just didn’t order the right things. Gennaro
