My New Book—Ice Cream: A Global History

Cookbook: The Healthy Hedonist Holidays

On Friday, I went to a book party of sorts sponsored by the New York Women’s Culinary Alliance. Myra Kornfeld, author of The Healthy Hedonist, which contains a year of wonderful multicultural vegetarian-friendly (not all recipes are vegetarian) menus and dishes, cooked lunch.

And what a lunch it was! The event was held at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Food and Health on 21st Street in New York, where Myra teaches. It also happened to be the last day of Ramadan. If every dish in the book is as delicious as the ones that Myra cooked for us, you won’t go wrong with this cookbook.

Here’s what she made:

Roasted red pepper pesto with almonds and sesame seeds;
Velvety and luscious Turkish red lentil soup;
Green leaf salad with crispy shallots and pomegranate molasses dressing that was refreshing and also had a nice crunch;
Chicken breasts stuffed with onions, cinnamon, almonds and cherries that was meltingly delicious;
Chickpea charmoula strudel. Charmoula is a fragrant Moroccan spice and herb mixture made from olive oil, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, garlic, parsley and cilantro.
