New York Restaurants, Chelsea: ArezzoHappy Halloween to all! Last night, after I went to hear author Amy Bloom talk about her widely-haled new novel, Away at the Barnes and Noble on 22nd and 6th, I went around the corner for dinner at Arezzo. If you’re looking for a quiet spot for conversation and well-prepared Italian classics, give Arezzo a try. Décor-wise, the place is pretty spare. “They need some pictures on the wall,” groused my hubby. But the service is gracious and the wine list is ample. There’s a three-course pre-fix for $39.00, which is an excellent buy. My hubby ordered it, and the first course of flash-fried calamari with yellow & green zucchini & garden herbs with spicy tomato sauce was done just right—tender calamari fried in a way that left a crunch with very little grease. Next, he tucked into organic veal scaloppini with wild organic mushrooms, truffle essence, potatoes & haricot verde; it was tender and flavorful. I myself am a gnocchi lover and order them whenever I spy the little potato pillows on a menu. The wild garlic flavored gnocchi with “100 tomato sauce” and shaved ricotta salata were light and delicate. Plus, the fresh tomato sauce, with chunks of tomato peaking out from the mounds of gnocchi, added exactly the right refreshing touch to a dish that can often be heavy and over-sauced. For dessert, we split a light-as-air Tiramisu, the perfect finish to this somewhat old-fashioned, but totally satisfying meal. Arezzo
