Penn Station Area: Mandoo Bar for Good Korean Dumplings

The other day, I followed my nose–and the long line–into Mandoo Bar on 32nd Street in the heart of Little Korea. In the window, some women in white coats were rolling out dumplings, called Mandoo in Korean, then plunking them in boiling water. The whole thing looked too good to pass up.

I ordered Kimchee Mandoo, steamed dumplings filled with kimchee, tofu, pork and other veggies. Then I scooted to the 1 train. I got home about 20 minutes later.

This of course was not a fair test for these dumplings. Still, allowing for the commute which couldn’t have helped matters much, they were very good, with a still tender dough around nicely spiced filling.

While I was waiting, I saw people eating some yummy looking soups. I’ll have to sample those some other night on my way home from work. This is a great spot for a quick meal–especially if you’re about to descend into the food hell that’s Penn Station and Amtrak.
