New York Magazine is beating the drum for ‘cue in NY. If you must eat it in Gotham, these new places might be worth a try. Especially the one in the West Village which seems more Asian fusion and less like a Disney version of a down home BBQ joint.
Yesterday, I went to a nearby nursery and bought two tomato plants, along with some thyme, some basil and what I think is parsley. Or maybe it’s cilantro. The tomato plants already have two teensy tomatoes on them. I feel very agricultural already.
Central, Michel Richard’s DC bistro, is an extraordinary dining experience. It just won the James Beard Award for best new restaurant. Clearly, I’m not the only one who appreciates the place.

With family-owned food stores in Manhattan fading fast, it’s good to celebrate the 100th birthday of Barney Greengrass, the smoked fish emporium. If you go there today, you can get lox and stuff at 1908 prices. A side of Nova is a mere $1.40; normally it’s $10. What a bargain!
