Williamsburg: The Anti-Fancy Food Show Rolls Into BrooklynFor the second year in a row, on June 29, Williamsburg will host a counter-Fancy Food Show, dubbed, with a less-than-original flourish, the UnFancy Food Show. For years, the establishment Fancy Food Show, which showcases specialty foods from around the world, has been held at the cavernous Javits Center on the far West Side of Manhattan. This year’s event begins June 29 and ends July 1. Yes, as the UnFancy Food Show folks claimed in an interview with New York Magazine recently, there are lots of exhibitors at Javits that hale from the corporate dark side. But others at the vast show are small food artisans trying to establish a market for their products. So while the Brooklyn-centric UnFancy Food Show is free to portray itself as the real, sustainable, hipster food gathering, I for one could do without the holier-than-thou ‘tude. There are plenty of fine small food entrepreneurs who need the buyers, media and thousands of other attendees assembled at the Fancy Food Show to help jump start their businesses. Take GuS soda, for example, which took a booth at the Fancy Food Show when it was just getting started. For those who want to sample the products that will be displayed at the Williamsburg gathering–don’t get me wrong, there are excellent producers listed as participants– here’s who will be there: Bronx Bee Honey- Local, seasonal, blow your mind honeys The 2nd Annual UnFancy Food Show
