Walking down Broadway on the Upper West Side these days is a lesson in the toll that the recession can take. Stores are shuttering left and right. It’s getting easier and easier to remember the 1970s, when the neighborhood was considerably shabbier than it is today.
In December, Picholine instituted a menu d’economie to lure recession battered diners to the high-end West Side eatery. But, if you wanted the lower priced option, you were relegated to the eatery’s bar area. Starting right now through Feb. 24, you can bid on some great goodies if you log onto the New Amsterdam Public Market auction web site.
We walked by the new futuristic glass-enclosed Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center last night and spied a restaurant in the lobby. According to the Times, it will open to the public Feb. 22 and will serve sandwiches, soups, salads and the like.
