Event: TV Cooking Shows from the 1940s to Iron Chef
It may seem that TV cooking shows were invented by the Food Network. But cooking on TV–for fun and instruction–has been around since the dawn of television in the 1940s. If you want to learn more about how these shows evolved, then tune in to this Culinary Historians of NY program at the Astor Center May 20. And…you never know, a Food Network scout could be lurking in the audience! WHAT: Kathleen Collins, author of Watching What We Eat: The Evolution of Television Cooking Shows leads the audience through 50 years of TV cooking show history–a history that tells us lots about how we cook and how we live. WHO: Kathleen Collins is an author and researcher who has studied and written about television, media, history, popular culture, and food. She has a Master’s degree in journalism from NYU, with a specialization in cultural reporting and criticism, as well as a Master’s in library science.
