This weekend was a sad one for the food world on the Upper West Side. First, the New York Times reported that Cafe des Artistes, the iconic eatery with the racy murals in business for 92 years, is now shuttered. Then, this morning, in an obituary, The Times noted the passing of Sheila Lukins, 66, an author of the Silver Palate cookbooks. Many people remember the tiny Silver Palate shop at Columbus Avenue an 73rd Street where Lukins and her partner Julee Rosso introduced Upper West Siders to new and exotic flavors and dishes, like gazpacho, that today have evolved into cozy dinner table standards.

One of my all-time favorite recipes is Chicken Marbella, made with prunes, olives and capers. It was a dinner party staple for years at my house.

Here’s that iconic recipe, adapated by Simply Recipes.
