Upper West Side: Broadway Farm to Open Fresh Fish Counter

The Upper West Side supermarket wars have a new entrant—Broadway Farm, the venerable market that’s been selling fruits, vegetables and other goods to the neighborhood for years.

Now the market, located just south of 86th Street, is expanding. By the end of September, the store hopes to have ready a new fresh fish counter and a larger selection of packaged meats. Included will be more kosher offerings.

Why the new venture?

General Manager Kabir Abdullah said shoppers have been asking Broadway Farm to supply them with fresh fish. Kosher meat is another frequent request, he said.

“On the Upper West Side between 75th and 95th streets, there’s no fish or meat store,” he said, adding that customers living in that area don’t want to trek down to the 70s to shop for those items at Fairway and Citarella.
