Upper West Side: Halloween Events On Tap at Natural History Museum Saturday

Halloween American Museum of Natural History Oct 2009

What’s the best thing about Halloween. Is it the candy? Of course! But there are also all those cute little kids decked out in their Halloween costumes. Today, the Museum of Natural History previewed its Halloween daytime activities for kids—and cuteness abounded. (See more photos below)

On Saturday Oct. 31 from 2pm to 5 pm, cartoon favorites like Miffy, Curious George, and Clifford the Big Red Dog will be on hand as the museum opens its doors for trick-or-treating and arts and crafts. Origami and paper plate decorating are just two of the many activities that will be sprinkled around the halls of the museum. There will also be live performances from entertainers like David Grover and the Big Bear Band. Master pumpkin carver Hugh McMahon will display lots of Halloween derring do, as well.

At today’s preview event, about 17 pre-schoolers from the Goddard Riverside Head Start Program were greeted by Clifford, Miffy and Curious George.  Decked out as fairy princesses, vampires and Star Wars characters, the kids were dazzled by the collection of big-pawed friends. At first, the young revelers were wide-eyed in the presence of the cartoon celebrities. But soon, Clifford and a young vampire-in-training were exchanging hugs, while a couple of fairy princesses smiled and posed for pictures.

For information about Saturday’s event, call 212 769-5200 of visit http://www.amnh.org/programs/specials/halloween/.  Admission is $10; $9 for museum members.
