Upper West Side: Tavern on the Green To Throw Farewell New Year’s Bash

Right before the current owners of Tavern on the Green shut the doors of the legendary eatery located on the Upper West Side just inside Central Park, they’ll be staging a last hurrah – a New Year’s Eve 2009 farewell bash.

The extravagantly decorated restaurant—there’s topiary outside and stained glass windows within—was launched in 1976  by legendary restaurateur Warner LeRoy. The current management is scheduled to close the place early next year. Meanwhile, Dean J. Poll who operates the Central Park Boathouse, was awarded the new 20-year license to run the restaurant beginning in 2010. But the New York Times has reported that Poll has yet to sign a contract with the Parks Department.

For New Years, the restaurant is offering a variety of packages – from $125 per person for a buffet dinner and dance disco with open bar, to $250 per person for guaranteed seating and VIP bottle service. Click here for more details.

Tavern on the Green is situated on New York’s Upper West Side, at the corner of Central Park West and 67th Street.  It’s been managed by LeRoy’s daughter, Jennifer LeRoy.
