A new store, serving traditional and newfangled Greek foods, has just opened up on Amsterdam Avenue.

Named Anthis, after the owner’s daughter, the shop serves old comfort food standbys like spinach pie, Greek salad, and Pastitsio.

But it also features new takes on old Greek favorites.

If you like traditional Greek yogurt with walnuts and honey, you’ll love Anthis’ impossibly rich yogurt with pecans ($4.00 for 9 ounces). There’s also yogurt with almonds and cranberry, and one flavored with mango. All varieties come in full and reduced fat versions, says owner Paul Likitsakos, whose family owns a couple of Greek food shops on the Upper East Side.

The yogurt is homemade. “My family makes it,” says Likitsakos, who also sells it occasionally as well as other Greek treats at the Green Flea on Columbus Avenue between 76th and 77th streets.

Pastries like baklava are imported from Astoria.

“I’ve done research for years” on who in Astoria makes the best pastries, says Liktsakos.

What’s selling well? Spinach pie and the yogurt.

The shop opened just before the summer exodus out of town. “July was good and August was OK, but now things are picking up,” said Likitsakos.

The gastropub is named after Psilakis’ late father, Gus, and his son Gabriel. It’s in the same spot on 79th Street that was once occupied by Kefi, Psilakis’ enormously popular neighborhood Greek spot.

“I was making simple, kid-friendly American foods for my son. We’re talking grilled cheese, turkey sandwiches, nachos, hot dogs. He was enjoying them and I was having a blast,” says Psilakis. “I wondered, why not take these comfort foods to a new level by preparing them in a professional kitchen?”

The top price for any item is $15. There are standards like chili, French onion soup, and sandwiches composed of homemade pastrami and corn beef, not to mention a full list of drinks for grownups in your group. From the bar, there are 50 beers and 70 varieties of bourbon, scotch, rum and tequila.
