Potato chips fall into two categories: natural, hand-cut varieties like those offered up at the Piping Plover in Southold on the North Fork of Long Island, or too-salty chips with a taste and texture like cardboard.
A new hotel–Bego Azair Hotel–may open any time now, at least that’s the word on the street in Greenport on Long Island’s North Fork.
I loathe birthday cake—too sweet, to sticky-icky. But Butta’ Cake’s birthday cake is a thing of joy—no matter what age you’re turning.
Strawberries are starting to show up at local farm stands on the North Fork. Krupski’s in Peconic has them. So does Latham’s. Their main farm stand is in Orient; there’s a daily satellite stand in Greenport as well. Pretty soon, Harbes in Mattituck on the North Road will be putting out its berries too.
It’s possible to stumble on great pizza in the most unexpected places. Take Mattituck on Long Island’s North Fork where we lucked into The Sicilian and its outstanding pies.
