Upper West Side Restaurant: TurkuazA couple of years ago, we tried Turkuaz and weren’t impressed. Friday night, we took my mother-in-law there. Taking your mother-in-law anywhere is, well, always a tricky proposition. But since my mother-in-law is an artist, she appreciated this eatery’s exotic charms. Turkuaz was a hit all around. When you enter, you think you’ve stumbled into a souk. The place is decorated with colorful fabrics and carpets that evoke the cuisine perfectly. I’m not a big fan of lamb but my kebab was outstanding. The meat was succulent and cooked medium rare, just the way I requested it. My husband ordered yogurt kebab which came with a tangy sauce. And my mother-in-law? She was ecstatic: her grilled striped bass was perfectly done. To top it all off, she ordered fragrant and rich Turkish coffee. Then the belly dancer sidled over. What better way to dine with a mother-in-law? Turkuaz |
